Approved Bedding for BabeSafe® Mattress Covers

BabeSafe® Mattress Cover Cleaning Instructions

Approved Bedding: ©TJ Sprott Limited

1. The bedding instructions for a BabeSafe-wrapped mattress are strict, to ensure that toxic gas generation from compounds of phosphorus, arsenic and/or antimony cannot occur in bedding on top of the BabeSafe-wrapped mattress.

2. The bedding instructions for a BabeSafe-wrapped mattress are as follows:

(a) On top of the wrapped mattress place a 100% pure cotton underblanket* (such as the BabeSafe approved 100% pure cotton flannel single-ply fitted underblankets offered on our website) and tuck this in securely.

(b) On top of the underblanket place two crib sheets. (The baby sleeps between these sheets.)

(c) On top of the upper crib sheet place 100% pure woollen or 100% pure cotton flat overblanket/s (approved overblankets also offered on our site).

(d) Do not use any of the following items in your baby's crib:
Sheepskin or lambskin
Sheepfleece/lambfleece underlay
Any form of moisture-resistant mattress protector
Any form of mattress pad
Any underblanket which is not made of pure cotton
Any blanket containing acrylic
Any blanket containing polyester
Any bedding item which is quilted/padded/filled
Sleeping bag or "clothing bag"
Duvet or quilt
Pillows or cushions

* Note 2.(a): This item must not be a "cotton mattress pad".

(e) Do not sleep your baby in any clothing item which is in the form of a bag.

3. If you follow exactly the bedding instructions for a BabeSafe-wrapped mattress at number 2 above, you will get the bedding correct. We reiterate that no form of mattress pad (regardless of composition) can be used.

4. Note that in respect of potential for this gas generation, the chemical composition of a bedding item is not the only issue -- in addition, the position of the item in the crib in relation to the baby (and thus the potential for fungal growth in the item) is also relevant. This is the reason why woollen blankets can be used ON TOP OF the baby in the crib, but must not be used BENEATH the baby in the crib.
