Mechanism for SIDS

The “Mechanism of SIDS”

This proposed mechanism by which SIDS occurs under the Toxic Gas Theory was put forward by Dr. T James Sprott of New Zealand back in the mid 1990’s.

The current body of evidence for the theory is that by applying it as the basis for mattress-wrapping of infant mattresses, crib death/SIDS/cot death has been stopped for those that have used the method.

In more than 245,000 mattresses wrapped in New Zealand there has not been one SIDS death when the BabeSafe Protocol has been followed for the specified bedding.

By the Socratic method of instruction…,

Here is the Toxic Gas Theory’s mechanism of SIDS:

What is the mechanism of SIDS/Crib Death?

The baby’s lungs stop breathing (apnea) and the baby’s heart stops beating due to central nervous system depression.

Why do the lungs and heart stop functioning?

Because the relevant nerve impulses from the brain don’t reach the lungs and heart to cause them to function.

Why don’t the nerve impulses reach the lungs and heart?

Because the nerves stop transmitting the impulses.

Why do the nerves stop transmitting the impulses?

Because of the accumulation of acetylcholine in the blood.

Why does acetylcholine accumulate in the blood?

Because the cholinesterase enzyme is deactivated.

What de-activates the cholinesterase enzyme?

Anticholinesterase agents.

What are these anticholinesterase agents?

Nerve gases formed from chemical compounds of phosphorus, arsenic, and/or antimony; phosphine, arsine and/or stibine, respectively.

Where are the chemical compounds of phosphorus, arsenic and antimony?

In the baby’s sleeping environment, such as the mattress and bedding (along with fungi which convert the compounds into the gases.)

What is successfully being used to stop the poisoning gases?

BabeSafe® mattress covers when used according to the Bedding Instructions of the Cot Life 2000 Protocol, that is, the BabeSafe Protocol.
